Following recent political events, the Korean film 12.12: The Day is experiencing an incredible resurgence. Viewership on IPTV platforms surged by over 1,000% on December 4, compared to the day prior. Additionally, the film has secured the top spot on Netflix Korea's "Top 10 Movies" chart, surpassing recent blockbusters.

Originally released in November last year, 12.12: The Day depicts the gripping nine-hour standoff between Security Commander Jeon Du-kwang (Hwang Jung-min) and Capital Defense Commander Lee Tae-shin (Jung Woo-sung). The film captivated over 13 million viewers during its initial theatrical release, sparking trends like the "Anger Challenge," where audiences shared photos of their rising heart rates after watching.

The current spike in popularity has been fueled by viral memes, parody posters, and comparisons to real-world events, reviving calls for its re-release in theaters and on television.

It is highly unusual for a film released over a year ago to climb back to the top ranks.

Watch it in the U.S.
